One More Example of Why Schools Should Be Gun Free Zones, Including School Employees

I would bet that a janitor is like our Greg Camp; someone who has a nebulous fear of improbable random violence occurring.  I'd also be willing to bet money that the janitor is another one of those gunloonz who tells everyone he can get to listen how safe and responsible he is.......except that he isn't.  But we're supposed to accept the judgment of people like this, which is clearly insufficient and deficient.

The very best way to guarantee this doesn't happen, that occurrences LIKE this do not happen, is to keep guns out of schools, post offices, courthouses, restaurants, libraries, grocery stores, department stores, and all similar public places.  They are unnecessary, and they are hazardous.  There is no justification there is no valid need for these weapons to be surrounding us, intruding on us, making us all less free, and less safe.

  1. Dog Gone,

It's no surprise to me that you let your biases blind you to the reality here. Carrying a gun into a school is already illegal. So how exactly would passing a law to make an illegal act illegal help anything?

  2. Apparently it is not illegal, or at least not a law which is enforced, as this janitor does not appear to have been using a concealed carry but rather a clearly open carry holster.

If we had less carry period, we would be safer from this kind of mistake, not just in schools, but everywhere.

This is one more instance where the exposure to an accident is not justified by any plausible credible risk that justifies this guy carrying at all, anywhere, outside his own home or a gun range.

  3. And we have breaking news that there has been a double homicide on the Virginia Tech campus. The Gunzghoulz will be out in force saying that they could have stopped whoever did the shooting.

NPR has a short report from a student who works for a campus radio station that says the university is sharing information about the situation on the locked down campus--including a description of the shooter.

  4. Sad. One of many examples. And yet the pro-gun crowd pushes for allowing guns on the grounds of grade schools. Here in Oregon, the extremist group, Oregon Firearms Federation (which routinely accuses the NRA of being too compromising!) bullied the school board of the Newberg school district into allowing guns on their campuses. And yet, earlier this year, a security guard at the Salem schools lost his gun on school grounds (to my knowledge, never recovered).

So, Greg, in some areas it is still questionable about allowance of guns in grade schools. Passing a law against it will remove the question (for the better).

  5. Baldr Odinson,

I prefer to pass a law that allows anyone with a carry license to carry on school grounds. We do keep working for that.

Yeah, 'cuz there are hundreds of thousands of shootings in grade schools every year.

You are truly delusional, and an asshole. That's not an ad hominem, btw, Greg. If I said you're delusional because you're an asshole--THAT would be an ad hominem. No, I think the asshole and delusional part are separate issues.
