Accidental Shooting in Missouri Kills Police Cadet - No Charges (Yet)

Local news reports

City police are investigating an apparent accidental shooting that killed a cadet.  The Lebanon Daily Record reports Russell Bragg, 24, died on Wednesday morning after being shot in the leg.

Police said Bragg's friend and fellow cadet was taking apart a gun on the balcony of Bragg's apartment Tuesday night when he bent down to pick up something and a bullet fired.  The round traveled through the victim's leg, then into his stomach and spine area.

Police haven’t said whether they’ll recommend the friend be charged with a crime.
They're not sure. It was only an accident, which in gun-friendly Missouri is certainly never a crime.

  1. Just another person with a gun who was safe, legal, 'in control of their firearm', and is now dead.

In the gun culture, anything and everything is excused if it involves a gun.

This is tragic, avoidable, a good example of why loaded guns in the home are a bad idea and a safety risk to gun owners, and everyone else in the vicinity.

This was a freaking apartment building. HOW MANY OTHER PEOPLE WERE AT RISK OF A BULLET COMING THROUGH A WALL, OR HITTING A PERSON NEAR THE BUILDING, FROM THE BALCONY?

One more example of why all those with guns who tell us ad nauseum how safe they are, and we should trust them, in their homes, in WalMart, in their cars, when they are NOT that damned safe, when they are more dangerous than helpful with lethal weapons.

    1. And Dog Gone, I take it that you have the secret decoder ring that will tell us in advance who is and who is not dangerous? These two were believed to be safe enough to become police officers. That's not the "gun culture." That's a Brady Bunch approved and E.N. approved government agency.

    2. Yep, for the NRA member, it's shoot first, and ask questions later. EVERY dead person is always an attacker beaten back by a DGU. And remember, if you shoot them, you tell whatever story you want, and arrange matters to support your little story. A LOT of DGUs are actually murders by NRA members.
