Man Shot to Death inside Alhambra Police Station

LA Times with video

The man killed in the lobby of Alhambra police headquarters Friday brandished a knife before officers fatally shot him, said L.A. County sheriff's officials.

The man walked into the lobby about 7:30 a.m. carrying a black backpack, but when officers tried to speak to him in several different languages, he was unresponsive and incoherent, said officials with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The suspect eventually pulled out a large knife from his backpack and three of the five officers standing in the lobby shot the man, authorities said.

I suppose this one doesn't count because the bad guy had a knife. But to me, it seems like another example of what the pro-gun fanatics often say never happens.

  1. What gets said is that you don't have mass shootings where innocent people die in a police station. That statement is generally true, but what we can say for a certainly is that pulling a weapon and threatening the police is a bad idea.

    1. No, what you guys say is gun free zones attract these guys. That's not true. These guys do their thing regardless of the gun-allowing status of the venue.

    2. Mike is right. Now let's look at where they are most successful.

    3. Ah, I didn't realize which straw man you were attacking. Do you notice how this didn't work out so well for the nut case with the weapon? That's because his potential targets were armed.

    4. This brings to mind the story of a man so dumb that he brought a knife to a gunfight. Perhaps another way of looking at this is the NRA President's statement that to stop a bad guy, you need a good guy with a gun. It doesnt matter whether the good guy is a citizen or a police officer.
Would this be another extrajudicial execution that Laci speaks of?

    5. In this case it's OK that the good guys were cops. On Baldr's links you were excluding the cops. What's up with that?

    6. As I said in my more recent comment on the other posting, Baldr was using data he claimed represented carry permit holders when in actuality they were police officers.

    7. This case was no gun free zone, this idiot didn't get to harm anyone with his clear intention to do so. A perfect example of why there shouldn't be any gun free zone.

My take on this it was basically suicide by cop. I say this because he knew walking into a police station was perfect for getting killed.

Had the place been one of those gun free zones, there would be no telling how many would have been harmed, maybe killed with his knife before he was stopped.
