14-Year-old Colorado Boy Dead - They're Calling it Accidental

Authorities say a 14-year-year-old boy was killed when he apparently shot himself accidentally during a family hunting trip in south-central Colorado's San Isabel National Forest.

The Chaffee County Sheriff's Office says Ian Dante Muro, of Brighton, was hunting with his father, mother and grandfather Saturday afternoon. The father and grandfather called 911 shortly after 5 p.m. to report that the boy had separated from the group when they heard a shot and found him nearby, lying motionless with his rifle.

Ian suffered a single gunshot wound to the chest.

An autopsy planned for Monday will determine the cause and manner of death, but an initial investigation indicates the shooting was accidental.

Separated from the group, rifle shot to the chest, sounds more like suicide to me.

What do you think?

  1. Not really enough information to tell. Suicide is possible, but not terribly likely. It can be a challenge to operate a rifle when it's pointing at your chest. I'm sure the autopsy will provide data when coupled with what was observed at the site to male a pretty good determination.
