The Gun Control Argument Hasn't Changed in Decades - Archie Bunker

  1. Yup, the gun rights argument has made sense, and the gun control side has failed to do so for decades.

    1. Governor Wallace had Secret Service protection the day of the assassination attempt. They had warned him not to shake hands.

All in the Family was a lot closer in time to the assassinations of both Kennedys and King. Thank God Reagan wasn't killed. Tough, old son-of-a-gun! I think we can all agree the the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act has been a good law.

A Manson family member even had a clear shot at President Ford. The gun jammed. That's the only reason he wasn't killed.

    2. Junior, do you really think "we can all agree the the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act has been a good law?"

  2. I'll tell you something that has changed. The guy on the TV said, "Guns must go." You guys are much more cagey now.

What hasn’t changed: you guys being off by 4 or 5 orders of magnitude. “Thousands” want to own guns?

    2. Yup, they laughed at Archie, until they found out he was right about most things.

    3. Sure, Archie Bunker is now known as the spearhead of American class and intelligence. I must have forgotten.

  4. Mike, why are you taking the side of the guy on TV instead of Archie? He's an extremist who wants a total gun ban. You should be distancing yourself from him.

    1. Who said anything about the guy on TV in the TV show. I'm more on the side of Meathead.

    2. On the side of Meathead, who was on the side of the guy on the TV and thus arguing against guns in general...

  5. Do you have any comments on my first point? What has changed since the 70's is that we don't see talking heads on TV calling for total gun prohibition anymore. Why do you suppose that is? Do you think it's because pro-rights people have won that part of the argument, and have convinced these types that guns have done positive value? Or did we convince them that the second amendment wouldn't allow it? Or did we not change any minds, but rather the tactics have changed because they've realized that this is a socially unpopular opinion, and being forthright about the end game would reduce their chances of passing small incremental "common sense" legislation?
