Do you really like being played for fools?

From this article:
That is how a kinda-savvy gun company commodifies the dissent of unsavvy gun nuts. Never mind that anyone who thinks an AR-15 or its shorter cousin, the M-4, is a valuable home-defense weapon is a shit-for-brains lemming. The gun's high-velocity, low-caliber, low-weight slugs won't stop shit up close, as those guys in Somalia and Iraq and Afghanistan have learned pretty succinctly. If you really want a home defense weapon, if you really want to open your family up to the high statistical probability that one of them will be killed or maimed at your well-intentioned hands, get a shotgun, or a large-caliber pistol, and get some training.
But I know, I know. The AR-15 and M-4 are the "it" guns now. So, fine. If you want to take down hajjis at distances greater than 50 yards, or you want to lay down suppressive fire for your squadmates' flanking maneuvers, or you want to massacre kindergartners, or you want to start the race war, or you want to shoot the shit out of peaceable moviegoers while blocking the exits, then yeah, at $1999.99, the nasty black assault rifle is your piece
Of course, all the right wing talking heads tell you that you need one and you rush off to buy them.

While a riot shotgun (or a shotgun in general) is a much better bet for home defence.

It seems that the mass shooters have been listening to our Vice President recently as he sung the advantages of a shotgun over a rifle. The shooting recently seem to be trending towards using shotguns. You forgot to include rifle competition to things you can do with one of those evil weapons.
And by the way, you can get a quite nice one for under a thousand.

    1. Does that mean you're in agreement with Laci? A shotgun is better for home defense than an AR-15.

  2. So you wouldn't object to selling an AK-47 in 7.62 caliber with its heavier bullet? Better still would be a full-power rifle for distance, a carbine for numbers, a shotgun for lots of things, and a handgun as backup.

Of course, I suspect the real situation here is that you're just angry that we won't buy your propaganda.

    1. I think the point of the post is that you're the one buying the propaganda about the popularity of the AR-15.

    2. As I've said here before, I do not (yet) own an AR-15. There are lots of other guns that I want more. I'm not fond of the direct impingement system of Stoner's gun.

Now we've argued many times about who believes in what propaganda. As far as I can see, you've bought into the gun-control narrative, but that's the nature of the debate.

And yet we were told that 20 children were literally blown apart by this weapon at close range.

  4. Fools don't know they are being played for fools. Fools are just being themselves.

Author Adam Weinstein is enough of an idiot to stump for gun control, alright. Apparently he is unaware that people who choose an AR-15 for home defense are not limited to full metal jacket ammo, to which the U.S. military (mostly) limits itself in accordance to the Hague Conventions (despite not being a signatory to that provision), allowing such people to use hollowpoint ammo.

Apparently he is also unaware that Daniel Defense offers AR-15s in 6.8mm SPC and .300 Blackout.

Finally, he appears unaware even that after Sandy Hook, every anti-gun crybaby who could grab a microphone screamed about how "devastating" wounds from an AR-15 are.

I would certainly wager that he could be stopped in a hurry with an AR-15--and I gotta admit the idea has more than a little appeal.

Kurt, that's a stupid and inappropriate joke. And by writing it you prove yourself to be an unabashed hypocrite because this is exactly the kind of thing you make a big deal of in your opponents. You often pretend to take things serious that you know were not meant that way. You've long been seen as a petty, small-minded but extremely glib little man, but now you've added hypocrite to your titles.
