Detroit 7-Year-old Shot by Neighbor Trying to Save Him From a Dog Attack

A seven-year-old boy was accidentally shot by a neighbour who was trying to rescue him as he was attacked by a dog, Detroit police have said.

The boy was taken to hospital for treatment for a gunshot wound following the incident in Warwick on Detroit's west side at about 8pm last night.

Police have said the boy was being attacked by a dog when a neighbour came outside to try and rescue him, WXYZ Detroit has reported.

The neighbour tried to shoot the dog but missed and injured the boy, it has been reported.

The dog was later shot and killed, according to the Detroit Free Press.

It is also understood police were hoping to speak to the neighbour who fired the shots, although it is not known if he will be charged with a crime.

Someone please take note of this one for the next time the gun-rights fanatics try to claim that only cops shoot people unintentionally while aiming at the bad guys.

  1. That was just 5 blocks from where I grew up in Detroit...I watched the WXYZ video and googled the location...If I was younger, I'd think about moving back to Detroit. I still have a pwerful visceral link to that place. I go back there when ever I am in the USA.

  2. "She saw her family running and went outside, but by the time she got out of the house, the attack was over and the dog, named “Big Boy,” had been shot, she said."
The dog, who was about 3 years old, died after being shot.
“The homeowner stated that she was attempting to get the dog off of the boy, but she was unable to,” Detroit police spokeswoman Officer Jennifer Moreno said. “Apparently the neighbor from across the street heard everything going on and came across and intervened.”
Boutchee also said she has no idea who stepped in, but has a message for that person: “Thank you for saving the boy.”
The two dogs at the home are usually kept in the basement if company is over, she said.
Neither dog had bitten anyone before and the boy was repeatedly told to stay out of the fenced backyard, Boutchee said."

I'm pretty sure I have never said that though I will admit to critiquing the number of misses in regards to the two NYPD officers who killed a gunman and injured a good number of bystanders.
Looks like the owner had completely lost control of the dog. They don't say what kind of dog it was, but I'm guessing if was a serious threat to the child.

    1. He's a civilian gun owner who fired at a threat and hit an innocent. I doubt very seriously if it's the first time it's ever happened, although that's what has been claimed.

  3. It just goes to show that people are too stupid to own dogs, we need to background check all dog breeders since they are allowing dogs into the hands of hidden dog owning criminals. We should also arrest the moron that sold them the dangerous dog.

  4. A good example where a less deadly weapon would have done the job without having a child end up shot.
