Virginia Man Charged in Accidental Shooting

Adam Robertson

Local news reports

Police charged a Bedford man who they say accidentally shot the mother of his child in front of their baby.
Adam Robertson, 21, is charged with firing inside an occupied dwelling and child neglect.
Police say Robertson thought the gun was unloaded when he racked the slide, pointed it, and pulled the trigger.  They say the incident happened Saturday night on Bills Road.
Police say a round fired and hit Kimberly Kurz, 20,  in the cheek and exited through her neck.
Police say Kurz was able to talk to officers and told them it was an accident.
The couple's 9-month-old son was not hurt.

  1. "Police say Robertson thought the gun was unloaded when he racked the slide, pointed it, and pulled the trigger."

If there wasn't a round in the chamber prior, that would certainly insure there was one in it afterwards. This is actually a common mistake when soldiers clear weapons coming into the wire. They're tired and eject the chambered round, but having forgotten to remove the magazine first, you still get a bang instead of a click.
We didn't have those in my unit because the standard was clearing supervised by an NCO. The second set of eyes worked wonders.

    1. So, what do you call it? Negligence?

    2. I have often said that in almost all cases of an "accidental" discharge, the more accurate term is negligent discharge.

    3. Especially since whether, or not he thought the gun was empty, he aimed and fired at her. If he had only followed safe gun rules no one would have been shot, Just another idiot gun loon, who should have his gun rights taken away since he has proved he is a danger with a gun.

    4. You're right, but being "charged with firing inside an occupied dwelling and child neglect," probably won't be enough. A little lawyerly plea bargaining and this dangerous idiot will be right back in action.

    That's no accident, it's negligence.
