Chicago - Another Bloody Holiday Weekend

 RT

Chicago police are calling for increased gun controls after another deadly Fourth of July weekend saw 65 people shot, 10 of them fatally. A 7-year-old boy was among the dead. At one point, police said they were confiscating an illegal firearm every hour.

Thirty people were shot across Chicago from dusk on Saturday until dawn on Sunday, after Independence Day celebrations. One of them was Amari Brown, seven, killed in his front yard late Saturday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

  1. " One of them was Amari Brown, seven, killed in his front yard late Saturday night in the Humboldt Park neighborhood."

It appears that young Amari was killed because of either where he lived or who his father was,

"Chicago police say Amari was killed by a “bullet meant for his father,” Antonio, described as a ranking member of the Four Corner Hustlers street gang. Antonio Brown had been arrested 45 times, most recently in April on charges of gun possession."

Let's keep in mind that the Chicago police have been lamenting their "lax gun laws" even before the state enacted a shall-issue permit system. There doesn't seem to be any mention of permit holders being involved in any of these shootings.
The police also seem to be having issues prosecuting gun crimes because of that pesky Fourth Amendment,

"Thousands of cases involving weapons violations were thrown out in Chicago's Cook County criminal courts between 2006 and 2013, according to the Chicago Reporter.
More felony cases involving guns were thrown out than any other kind of case, the Chicago Reporter said.
According to the Chicago Reporter, the chief of the state’s attorney’s office’s criminal prosecutions bureau said most of the dismissed cases "were based on a judge's decision to suppress evidence because a gun was intercepted in a way that violates the Fourth Amendment. Under that scenario, the prosecutor’s office would have no choice but to throw out the charge."

  2. "At one point, police said they were confiscating an illegal firearm every hour." So the guns were already illegal but another law will surely make it all stop right?

    1. Actually, yes, Jim. Every one of those guns started out the legal property of someone somewhere. Laws like mandatory safe storage and universal background checks would certainly cut into the flow from legal to illegal gun ownership.

  3. So there is no way to stop illegal guns? Just give up and let the killing resume.

What do you mean by "resume"? For the killing in Chicago to resume, it would have to have stopped at some point. But Chicago, with its decades of rabidly anti-gun government, has also (coincidentally?) for decades been a cesspool of violent crime.

    2. That means on gun loons part, don't even try to stop the killing. These gun shot deaths are just part of what we put up with for a 2nd amendment, which is no longer about militias, so it's void.
